Skincare Literacy® Navigation Philosophy
This website is organized around a simple truth: skincare is both knowledge and practice. It’s not just about what you use — it’s about what you understand. To honor that, the navigation follows a deliberate structure grounded in your real-world journey: five thematic Hubs, each serving as a distinct stage of your skincare literacy evolution.
These hubs — Skin, Skincare, Personalization, Resources, and Connection —are not just menu labels. They are milestones on the path from curiosity to confidence. Whether you’re just beginning or deepening your expertise, the structure is here to help you move forward with clarity and intention.
Skin
Start with structure. Stay curious.
Everything begins with the skin itself. Before ingredients, before products, before regimens — we start with understanding the skin’s architecture, behavior, and unique variability.
In the Skin Hub, you’ll find foundational explorations of skin types and how they shift over time or in response to your environment, health, or routine. We don’t rely on rigid skin type labels here — we decode them.
Soon, this section will also grow to include new explorations into skin aging, the skin microbiome, phototypes, and skin behavior across zones and stages of life. Think of this as your anatomical and biological anchor. When you know your skin better, everything else becomes easier.
Because effective skincare doesn’t start with a serum — it starts with you learning how your skin works.
Skincare
Once you know your skin, learn how to support it.
Once the structure is clear, we turn to support strategies. This is where skincare becomes a conversation — not just a routine.
In the Skincare Hub, you’ll explore the four core skincare pillars: cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection, and treatment. But we don’t stop at surface-level tips. We examine how different formats (gels, serums, balms, etc.) interact with different skin traits. We decode active ingredients and their functions, side effects, and ideal use cases. We talk about botanicals and the line between trend and evidence.
Everything is organized around one key idea: your skin type influences what works best. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all product gallery. It’s a science-based guide to functional skincare choices — mapped against the physiology of real skin.
Personalization
Now it’s your turn to map the landscape.
After understanding your current skin traits, it’s time to personalize. This doesn’t mean choosing a product from a dropdown menu. It means learning how to observe, interpret, and respond to your skin’s signals — with curiosity, not panic.
In the Personalization Hub, we focus on helping you develop what I call your personal skin map: a living, evolving understanding of what your skin is experiencing, what’s influencing it, and what kind of care it needs today (not last year).
There are no quizzes here to tell you who you are. No algorithm assigning you a label. The only expert on your skin… is you.
What I offer is guidance you can actually use: frameworks for observation, symptom interpretation, and care adjustment that adapt as you do. This is skincare for real life — not rigid protocols, not guesswork.
Resources
Build knowledge. Expand your toolkit.
Information overload is everywhere — but reliable resources are rare. That’s why the Resources Hub exists: to support deeper, ongoing learning through trusted, evidence-based tools.
Here, you’ll find my books, online courses, and an ever-growing Glossary of skincare terms. These aren’t promotional add-ons — they are the backbone of this project. Each resource is designed to give you clarity, context, and confidence, whether you’re just beginning or diving deeper.
You don’t need a PhD to understand your skin — but you do need to be empowered with science-backed information. This hub is where that empowerment lives.
Connection
Learning grows through conversation.
Skincare is personal — and so is education. The Connection Hub invites you to go beyond the page. Here, you can:
- Listen to the podcast, where I unpack ideas from the books and share real-world insights
- Join the newsletter, where I offer curated content and exclusive tools
- Learn more about me, the journey behind this project, and what’s coming next
I believe learning isn’t static. It grows through dialogue, reflection, and shared curiosity. This hub is where we stay connected, and where the ideas we explore together can take root — and grow.
Why This Structure?
You won’t find endless product roundups here. You won’t be lost in an archive of disjointed blog posts. The design of this platform is intentional — mirroring how true skincare literacy unfolds:
First we observe. Then we understand. Then we act. Then we grow.
This is not a beauty blog. It’s not a product review site. It’s a science-informed space to build your skin knowledge — and apply it meaningfully.
So here’s what you’ll find instead:
- Clarity, not clutter
- Purposeful learning, not passive scrolling
- A roadmap, not a maze
Welcome to Skincare Literacy®. Let’s connect the dots — together.
