Transepidermal water loss (TEWL)

The rate of passive evaporation of water from the skin’s surface, indicating hydration levels and barrier integrity. TEWL increases when the barrier is compromised, leading to dehydration and irritation. High TEWL indicates a weakened barrier and dehydration.
